Baby Benadryl – part 2
I have an earlier post about my experience with baby benadryl. But I recently learned something new – you should be careful which Benadryl you give to your child if they have a cold. The regular Benadryl is an antihistamine which is typically used for allergies – sneezy, itchy eyes, runny nose etc.Â
However, you should NOT use this type of Benadryl if your child has a lot of mucus from a cold. If you do, the runny nose may stop but the mucus will likely settle into the sinuses or possibly the ears. Either which can lead to uncomfortable infections. It’s more imp0rtant to get the mucus out. You can let the cold run it’s course and help alleviate their symptoms.
Or, if you are going to use Benadryl - be sure to look for Benadryl Cold which has pseudoephedrine that can treat a runny or stuffy nose, sinus congestion, sneezing, and pain or fever caused by allergies or the common cold. Most importantly, consult a pediatrician for dosage recommendations.
